Good flies are hard to find. Too many fly shops are selling flies tied overseas. While they sometimes look good to the eye, they lack durability, variety, proper hooks, unfoulability, and proper tying technique. Saltwater fish and fishing conditions amplify these problems. If you are going to an expensive exotic destination choose the flies that are tied in the USA by seasoned guides who have been there, done that, and know what it takes to make a quality fly that can catch the fish of a lifetime.

Below are a few patterns available. Some are old stand-bys others are improved or cutting edge patterns. All are tied for durability on hooks you can trust a trophy fish to. Prices listed are retail, commercial orders(four dozen+) take 30% off.

Improved Del Brown Permit Merkin; This is an updated version of a classic. The merkin has caught more permit than any other permit fly, also has many permit world records to it's credit. The improved pattern keeps the basic design, but adds realism and a better hook to make it even more deadly.Available in sizes #4-1/0 $4.50 retail.

LIVE SHRIMP FLY- This is an awesome pattern for anything that eats shrimp. Not only is it a very realistic shrimp pattern, but it is tied to swim like a shrimp. $3.50 sizes #4-1/0

TARPON TOAD; It is very surprising anglers did not catch onto this pattern years earlier than they did. This pattern has actually been around for almost 10 years and Andy Mill won most of his tournaments on it, but somehow no one really paid attention to the fly until the article was written. This is an awesome tarpon fly that works for many other species as well. A modern tarpon fly that is a must have in every tarpon fisherman's fly box. 1/0-3/0 $4.50

APTE TOO BLACK DEATH; This is a classic tarpon bunny fly, the color works great in Central America, and in off colored water anywhere. Great looking fly, gets the attention of the tarpon. 1/0-4/0 $4.50

CAPT. STEVE HUFF'S WHITE LIGHTNING; This pattern has been around about 20 years and has caught a ton of tarpon. Even though it is an old pattern it is still a great producer. It was created by the greatest Keys guide ever, Steve Huff, so you know it works! 1/0-4/0 $4.50

GLO SHRIMP; This is a newer pattern I created that filled both qualifications that tarpon love....flo green, and shrimp-looking. It has been a killer pattern in areas where the tarpon are fly-shy. It is tied bulky so it suspends well in the water. 1/0-3/0 $4.50

SST SHRIMP- This is an epoxy pattern created by the great Keys guide Harry Spear. It is usually tied on a #4 hook and looks just like a tiny translucent shrimp. The picture does not do the Epoxy justice, the fly has a flo green flashy body with a epoxy "skin" coating. Epoxy flies were once standard on bonefish flies an dthey worked great. They are much less common now. The only explaination is probably because they are much harder to tie. Size #6-#2 $4.00

THE RAT; This is a shrimp pattern that has a spun deer hair head, making it neutrally bouyant. It was created for tarpon but works for ALL saltwater species. Add lead eyes and you have a bonefish fly. I have also caught permit on this pattern while fishing for tarpon. Makes for a nice incidental catch. #4-2/0 $4.50
